Brisbane – miasto w Australia|Australii, stolica stanu Queensland położone u ujścia rzeki Brisbane (rzeka)|Brisbane do Zatoka Moreton|zatoki Moreton. Klimat subtropikalny z goracymi wilgotnym latami i ciepłymi, łagodnymi zimami.

Ważny ośrodek handlowy, naukowy (2 uniwersytety) i kulturalny (muzea, galeria sztuki); liczne parki (herbarium). Brisbane jest ośrodkiem przemysłu rafineryjnego, stoczniowego i maszynowego.

Historia

Założone zostało w 1824 jako kolonia karna (Redcliffe Point nad Zatoką Moreton). Nazwa miasta pochodzi od Sir Thomasa Brisbane (1773–1860), Brytyjskiego żołnierza i administratora urodzonego w Ayrshire w Szkocja|Szkocji.

W 1859 roku po oddzieleniu Queensland od Nowa Południowa Walia|Nowej Południowej Walii Brisbane zostało stolicą nowego stanu.

Na terenie Queensland w czasie zasiedlenia mieszkało ok. 100 tys. Aborygeni|Aborygenów podzielonych na 200 szczep|szczepów. Przez znaczną częsć XIX wieku toczyły się tam walki o ziemię pomiędzy osadnikami a Aborygenami.

W mieście zloklizowany jest i .
Brisbane to miasto z wieloma przedmieściami. Położone jest na bardzo dużym obszarze, dlatego dotarcie dokądkolwiek wiąże się z pokonywaniem dużych odległości.
Miasto posiada bardzo dobrze rozwiniętą sieć komunikacji miejskiej włączając w to autobusy, rzeczne promy, kolejkę. Jednak dla stałych mieszkańców jedyną rozsądną opcją jest tylko własne auto, tym bardziej że przy poruszaniu się po mieście korzysta się często z autostrad np. Centenary Highway.

Organizacja ruchu w centrum zmienia się w zależności od pory dnia. W godzinach szczytu niektóre pasy zmieniają kierunek ruchu. Np. rano jest więcej pasów w kierunku do centrum, po zakończeniu godzin pracy - więcej pasów staje się pasami w kieunku poza centrum. Niektóre pasy są wyłączane tylko dla autobusów.

Dla studentów obowiązują duże zniżki na bilety za okazaniem legitymacji studenckiej instytucji w jakiej prowadzona jest nauka. Rozkłady jazdy autobusów z mapkami tras są dostępne bezpłatnie. Przystanki autobusowe są od siebie znacznie oddalone, pytając kierowcę o to na którym należy wysiąść najlepiej podać jakiś punkt orientacyjny w danej dzielnicy, w pobliże którego zamierza się dotrzeć, inaczej można się liczyć z długim spacerem albo oczekiwaniem na następny autobus.
