Cairns – miasto i port w północnej części stanu Queensland w Australia|Australii liczące ok. 130 000 mieszkańców.
Założone w trzciny cukrowej, zbiory dwa razy w roku), a obecnie jest znaczącym ośrodkiem turystycznym. W Cairns kończy się linia kolejowa z Brisbane.
Cairns przyciąga turystów dogodnie położonym portem lotniczym oraz lokalizacją. Wielka Rafa Koralowa znajduje się zaledwie o 1 do 1,5 godziny rejsu szybką łodzią od port|portu. Ponadto jest bazą wypadową dla uprawiania spływów górskimi rzekami, a w pobliskich górach paralotniarstwa. Niestety, wraz z szybkim rozwojem, Cairns staje się coraz mniej atrakcyjne dla turystów, którzy spędzają tu w najlepszym razie zaledwie parę dni przed dalszą drogą na północ.
Najlepsze warunki pogodowe panują w okresie zimy - od maja do października. W lecie panuje tropikalny upał (przciętna temperatura wynosi 30°C), duża wigotność powietrza i ciągłe, gwałtowne opady - suma opadów od stycznia do marca wynosi 1300 mm. Okoliczne rzeki przybierają przecinając drogi, a Daintree River przybiera nawet o 15 metrów, więc nie jest to okres sprzyjający turystyce.
