Według danych na rok 1990 gminę zamieszkiwały 141 404 osoby, a gęstość zaludnienia wynosiła 3,312 osób/km² (wśród 1504 gmin Kraj Loary|Kraju Loary Angers plasuje się na 3. miejscu pod względem liczby ludności, natomiast pod względem powierzchni na miejscu 113.).
Historia
Starożytna osada Celtowie|Celtycka, później Rzym|rzymska. Od XII wieku stolica hrabstwa
Andegawenia|Andegawenii. Okres świetności miasta przypada na czasy Andegawenowie|Andegawenów i Plantageneci|Plantagenetów. W okresie od października 1939 do czerwca 1940 w Angers mieściła się siedziba Polski Rząd na Uchodźstwie|Polskiego Rządu na Uchodźstwie.
Obecnie miasto jest centrum handlowym regionu, uprawy winorośli i zbóż (targi rolne).
Różnorodny przemysł m.in. wyrób win i likierów. Ważny ośrodek naukowy (2 uniwersytety, wyższa szkoła
rolnicza.
