Historia

Nazwa miasta powstała przez połączenie nazw dwóch miast, które zostały połączone w roku Galami pod wodzą Wercyngetoryksa oraz Starożytny Rzym|Rzymianami pod wodzą Gajusz Juliusz Cezar|Juliusza Cezara.

W Clermont w czasie synodu w 1095 zapadła decyzja o podjęciu I wyprawa krzyżowa|pierwszej krucjaty w celu uwolnienia Jerozolima|Jerozolimy spod dominacji muzułmanin|muzułmańskiej. Decyzję ogłosił tutaj papież Urban II.
