Historia
Celtycki gród Nemausus. W 121 p.n.e.|121 roku p.n.e. znalazło się pod władzą Republika Rzymska|Rzymu; za Oktawian August|Oktawiana Augusta kolonia rzymska, okres rozkwitu przeżywało w II wiek|II i III wiek|III wieku; od około 400 jest siedzibą biskupstwa; w V wiek|V wieku zostało opanowane przez Wizygoci|Wizygotów. W 725 roku podbili je Arabowie, w 737 roku wyzwolił je Karol Młot; od X wieku znajdowało się pod panowaniem lokalnych hrabiów, od 1185 hrabiów Tuluzy. Na początku XIII wiek|XIII wieku Nîmes brało udział w krucjata|krucjacie przeciwko albigensom.
