Chania (Krety (Grecja), w latach 1898-1971 jej główny ośrodek administracyjny. Stolica prefektury Chania i dystryktu (powiatu) Kydonia. Miasto zostało założone przez Republika Wenecka|Wenecjan na miejscu starożytnego, istniejącego tu już ok. IV tysiąclecie p.n.e.|3400 r. p.n.e., kultura minojska|minojskiego osiedla Kydonia. W XIII wieku Chania znalazła się we władzy Wenecjan, zaś w roku 1645 przeszła w ręce imperium osmańskie|Imperium Osmańskiego. Podczas II wojna światowa|II wojny światowej została poważnie zbombardowana.
Obecnie Chania słynie z atrakcyjnej nabrzeżnej dzielnicy portowej, charakterystycznej weneckiej zabudowy.
W okolicach miasta znajduje się śródziemnomorska baza Sił Zbrojnych USA oraz lotnisko cywilne.
