Heidelberg - miasto w Niemcy|Niemczech w
Badenia-Wirtembergia|Badenii-Wirtembergii, w regionie Rhein-Neckar-Odenwald, położone nad rzeką Neckar.

Liczba mieszkańców wynosi 142,7 tys. (czerwiec 2004), a powierzchnia miasta to 108,8 km².

Zabytki i atrakcje turystyczne

Heidelberg jest znanym centrum turystycznym znanym z najstarszego w Niemczech uniwersytetu, założonego w roku 1386. (Choć najstarszym niemieckojęzycznym uniwersytetem była Praga, ze względów politycznych, w przewodnikach turystycznych pierwszeństwo w Niemczech objął Heidelberg.)
Nieodłącznym elementem tego miasta są jego Korporacja akademicka|korporacje akademickie a w szczególnosci Corps (korporacja akademicka)|Corps'y.
Miasto jest także miejscem licznych festiwali i targów.

Historia

Przypuszcza się, że pierwszą osadę na terenach dzisiejszego Heidelbergu
założyli ok. II wieku p.n.e. Celtowie.
W czasach rzymskich powstała tu twierdza, świątynia i most.
Najstarsze wzmianki w dokumentach o Heidelbergu pochodzą z roku 1196.
W okresie od XIII wieku do roku 1720 miasto było siedzibą rodu Wittelsbachowie|Wittelsbachów i stolicą Palatynat|Palatynatu reńskiego.

Jako jedno z nielicznych miast niemieckich, Heidelberg uniknął zniszczeń wojennych w czasie II wojna światowa|drugiej wojny światowej, a po wojnie znajdowała się tu kwatera główna sił zbrojnych USA w Europie. W zamachu bombowym dokonanym przez Frakcja Czerwonej Armii|Frakcję Czerwonej Armii zginęło 3 żołnierzy USA, a kilku innych zostało rannych.
